Simultaneous 250 kS/s Data Acquisition

The PXIe-4300 uses a dedicated analog-to-digital converter for each input channel. All eight channels can therefore acquire data simultaneously at rates up to 250 kS/s per channel without the timing skew associated with multiplexed input architectures.

Simultaneous sampling is valuable when measuring phase relationships, switching events, transient signals or multiple power-system parameters that must be compared at the same point in time.

Isolated High-Voltage Measurements

The PXIe-4300 provides 300 Vrms channel-to-channel CAT II isolation. This allows individual input channels to measure signals at different common-mode voltages while helping protect the measurement system and connected equipment.

For measurements above ±10 V, the TB-4300B terminal block is required. It uses a 30:1 attenuation network and additional protection circuitry to support voltage ranges of ±30 V, ±60 V, ±150 V and ±300 V.

High-voltage measurements require appropriate wiring, enclosures, personal protective equipment and safety procedures. The measurement category, working voltage and isolation limits must not be exceeded.

Programmable Input Ranges

With the standard TB-4300 terminal block, each channel supports software-selectable input ranges of ±1 V, ±2 V, ±5 V and ±10 V. Selecting the smallest suitable range can improve measurement resolution for lower-amplitude signals.

When using the high-voltage TB-4300B, the corresponding external ranges are ±30 V, ±60 V, ±150 V and ±300 V. NI-DAQmx can apply the stored scaling information associated with the terminal block.

Programmable Low-Pass Filtering

Each PXIe-4300 input channel includes a software-selectable second-order Butterworth low-pass filter. Available settings include 10 kHz, 100 kHz and filter bypass.

The filters can reduce high-frequency noise before digitization and help improve measurement stability. The bypass setting provides the widest available input bandwidth for applications that need to capture faster signal components.

Current Measurements with the TB-4300C

The TB-4300C terminal block enables the PXIe-4300 to acquire industrial current signals up to 20 mA. This configuration is suitable for monitoring common process instruments and transmitters using current-loop outputs.

Before connecting a current signal, verify that the TB-4300C is installed and that the channel is configured with the appropriate NI-DAQmx scaling. Do not connect a current loop using terminal block wiring intended only for direct voltage measurement.

Triggering and Synchronization

The PXIe-4300 includes two programmable function interface lines for digital input triggering. It also supports PXI trigger lines and PXI Express synchronization resources for coordinating acquisition with other instruments.

Multiple PXIe-4300 modules can be synchronized in a single chassis to create higher-channel-count isolated measurement systems. Synchronization is especially useful for three-phase power testing, battery systems and distributed industrial measurements.

Typical PXIe-4300 Applications

  • High-voltage data acquisition
  • Battery pack and battery management system testing
  • Power supply validation
  • Inverter and converter testing
  • Motor drive measurements
  • Three-phase power monitoring
  • Industrial equipment monitoring
  • Automotive electrical testing
  • Rail and transportation power-system testing
  • Industrial 20 mA current-loop acquisition
  • Automated production testing
  • Research and laboratory measurement systems

Software and Driver Support

The PXIe-4300 is supported by the NI-DAQmx driver, which provides configuration, acquisition, triggering, synchronization and scaling functions. Applications can be developed using NI LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, C/C++, C# and supported Python environments.

NI FlexLogger can also be used for supported interactive data acquisition and logging applications. NI TestStand can integrate PXIe-4300 measurements into automated validation and production test sequences.

PXI Chassis and System Integration

The PXIe-4300 is an x1 PXI Express peripheral module compatible with supported PXI Express and PXI Express hybrid slots. It requires a compatible PXI chassis and embedded or remote controller.

Suitable chassis options include the PXIe-1092, PXIe-1085 and other NI PXI Express chassis with sufficient power, cooling and slot capacity.

Keep unused chassis positions fitted with appropriate filler panels to maintain the airflow required for reliable module operation.

Installation and Troubleshooting

Module Is Not Detected

Confirm that the PXIe-4300 is installed in a compatible PXI Express or hybrid peripheral slot. Check the chassis connection, controller operation and NI-DAQmx installation before refreshing the hardware configuration in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer.

High-Voltage Range Is Not Available

Verify that the TB-4300B terminal block is installed and correctly identified. The base PXIe-4300 input circuitry supports ranges up to ±10 V, while measurements up to ±300 V require the attenuation and protection provided by the TB-4300B.

Measurements Are Noisy

Check grounding, shielding and cable routing. Select the 10 kHz or 100 kHz low-pass filter when the application does not require the full input bandwidth. Keep signal cables separated from switching power circuits and other noise sources.

Channels Show Different Measurements

Confirm that the input range, terminal block scaling and filter setting are configured correctly for every channel. Also allow the module to warm up for at least 15 minutes before making measurements that require rated accuracy.

Current-Loop Measurements Are Incorrect

Verify that the TB-4300C terminal block is installed and that the signal is wired as a current input. Check loop polarity, available loop power and the configured current scaling.
