32-Channel Simultaneous Sampling

The PXIe-4302 has one dedicated ADC for each of its 32 differential analog input channels. All channels can therefore acquire signals at the same instant at rates up to 5 kS/s per channel.

Simultaneous sampling preserves the phase and timing relationships between channels, making the module suitable for multichannel sensor measurements, structural testing and synchronized process monitoring.

24-Bit Measurement Resolution

The module uses 24-bit delta-sigma ADCs to provide high-resolution measurements of slowly changing and low-frequency signals. Its high resolution is particularly useful for thermocouples, precision voltage measurements and low-level sensor outputs.

The combination of 24-bit conversion, differential inputs and selectable filtering helps reduce the effect of noise in demanding measurement environments.

Programmable Input Ranges

The PXIe-4302 provides nominal input ranges of ±100 mV and ±10 V. The ±100 mV range is suitable for low-level sensors and thermocouples, while the ±10 V range supports common industrial and laboratory voltage signals.

Selecting the range closest to the expected signal amplitude helps maximize the effective measurement resolution.

Per-Channel Digital Filtering

A digital low-pass filter can be selected independently for each channel. Available cutoff settings include 2 Hz, 20 Hz, 200 Hz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz.

This allows channels measuring slowly changing temperature signals to use stronger filtering while other channels acquire faster voltage or current signals at higher bandwidths.

Four Concurrent Timing Configurations

The PXIe-4302 can operate with up to four different sample-rate and triggering configurations at the same time. Channels can be grouped according to their sensor type, bandwidth and measurement requirements.

This capability reduces the need to operate every channel at the same rate and helps optimize data volume when different sensor types are connected to one module.

Voltage Measurements

When used with the TB-4302 terminal block, the module can acquire up to 32 differential voltage signals. The ±10 V range supports common test and industrial signals, while the ±100 mV range provides additional sensitivity for low-level measurements.

Differential measurements help reject common-mode noise and reduce errors caused by ground-potential differences.

Thermocouple Measurements

The PXIe-4302 can be used for high-density thermocouple acquisition when paired with appropriate terminal hardware and cold-junction compensation. Its ±100 mV range, 24-bit resolution and low-frequency filters are well suited to thermocouple signals.

Thermocouple type, scaling, cold-junction compensation and open-sensor detection should be configured correctly in the measurement software.

Current Measurements

The TB-4302C terminal block enables current measurements with the PXIe-4302 by converting the input current into a measurable voltage. It is intended for applications involving common industrial current signals.

Verify the terminal block configuration, current range and external wiring before connecting a current loop.

Typical Applications

  • Multichannel voltage acquisition
  • Thermocouple temperature measurement
  • Industrial current-loop monitoring
  • Structural and mechanical testing
  • Battery and energy-storage testing
  • Automotive validation
  • Environmental test chambers
  • Process monitoring
  • Power system measurement
  • Automated data logging

NI-DAQmx Software Support

The PXIe-4302 is supported by the NI-DAQmx driver, which provides configuration, timing, triggering, scaling and data-transfer functions. Applications can be developed using LabVIEW, Python, C, C# and other supported programming environments.

NI-DAQmx also provides example programs and diagnostic tools to simplify module setup and troubleshooting.

FlexLogger Integration

FlexLogger can be used to configure and record measurements without developing a complete custom application. Users can set channel names, engineering units, sample rates, alarms and logging conditions through an interactive interface.

It is particularly useful for validation, environmental testing and multichannel sensor data-logging applications.

Terminal Block Selection

Choose the TB-4302 for front-mounted voltage or thermocouple wiring. Choose the TB-4302C when current inputs are required.

The RM-4302 is designed for rack-mounted installations and supports front-panel signal access, external power input and in-situ calibration while the PXI module remains installed.

PXI Express System Integration

The PXIe-4302 requires a compatible PXI Express chassis and controller. System configuration should consider the number of modules, chassis cooling, synchronization, controller performance and total data throughput.

Troubleshooting the PXIe-4302

The module is not detected

Confirm that the PXIe-4302 is installed in a compatible PXI Express slot. Check the chassis controller, PXI Platform Services and NI-DAQmx installation.

Measurements contain excessive noise

Use differential wiring, verify the signal ground, select an appropriate digital filter and keep sensor cables separated from power and switching signals.

The measured voltage is incorrect

Check the selected input range, terminal assignments, signal polarity and engineering-unit scaling. Confirm that the input does not exceed the supported working voltage.

Thermocouple temperatures are inaccurate

Verify the thermocouple type, polarity, cold-junction compensation source and terminal block configuration. Avoid creating additional junctions with incompatible metals.

Current measurements are incorrect

Confirm that the TB-4302C is used and configured correctly. Check the current-loop wiring, channel assignment and scaling applied in NI-DAQmx.

Some channels sample at an unexpected rate

Review the channel grouping and timing-engine configuration. The PXIe-4302 supports up to four concurrent sample rates, so channels may belong to different acquisition groups.
