National Instruments PXIe-5644 6 GHz 80 MHz Reconfigurable Vector Signal Transceiver

PXIe-5644 6 GHz Reconfigurable Vector Signal Transceiver

The NI PXIe-5644 is a first-generation PXI Express vector signal transceiver that combines a vector signal analyzer, vector signal generator and user-programmable FPGA in one three-slot instrument. It covers RF signals from 65 MHz to 6 GHz and provides as much as 80 MHz of digitally equalized instantaneous bandwidth.

The module is designed for software-defined RF test, wireless-device validation, RFIC characterization, power-amplifier testing and high-throughput production systems. Its FPGA can execute triggering, digital signal processing, control and custom measurement logic close to the RF data path.

Key Features of the PXIe-5644

  • 65 MHz to 6 GHz RF frequency range
  • Up to 80 MHz instantaneous bandwidth
  • Integrated vector signal analyzer and vector signal generator
  • Xilinx Virtex-6 LX195T user-programmable FPGA
  • 16-bit ADC and DAC architecture
  • 120 MS/s I/Q data rate
  • 24 bidirectional digital I/O lines
  • Two 256 MB onboard DRAM banks

Integrated VSA and VSG Architecture

The PXIe-5644 can generate a modulated RF stimulus and acquire the resulting RF response in the same modular instrument. This stimulus-and-response architecture reduces system size and enables tightly coordinated measurements.

80 MHz Instantaneous Bandwidth

The digitally equalized RF input and output paths support up to 80 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth above 375 MHz. Available bandwidth is limited to 40 MHz from above 109 MHz to 375 MHz and to 20 MHz at center frequencies of 109 MHz or lower.

User-Programmable FPGA

The onboard Virtex-6 FPGA supports custom signal processing, deterministic sequencing, protocol-aware triggering and device-control functions. LabVIEW FPGA can be used to develop application-specific behavior without replacing the RF front end.

Typical Applications

  • Wireless transmitter and receiver testing
  • WLAN, LTE and cellular component validation
  • RF power-amplifier characterization
  • RFIC production testing
  • Custom FPGA-based RF measurements
  • Automated spectrum and modulation analysis
