PCI-6723 Part Number and Accessories
| Item | Part Number | Description |
|---|---|---|
| PCI-6723 | 778701-01 | 32-channel, 13-bit analog output device |
| Shielded 68-Pin Cable | Length dependent | Cable for compatible SCB-68-series accessories |
| SCB-68A | 782536-01 | Shielded screw-terminal connector block |
| NI 67xx Pinout Label | Accessory specific | Label matching the PCI-6723 connector pinout |
| RTSI Cable | Configuration dependent | Synchronizes compatible PCI measurement devices |
Because the PCI-6723 uses two connectors, a complete 32-channel system can require two cables and terminal blocks. Install the correct NI 67xx connector labels to prevent wiring errors.
32 Analog Voltage Outputs
The PCI-6723 can generate a separate voltage on each of its 32 channels. This high output density is useful for controlling multiple DUT inputs, simulating sensor signals and setting many analog operating points.
Each output should be connected to a compatible high-impedance load. Use external amplifiers when the application requires more than approximately 5 mA from a channel.
Hardware-Timed Waveform Generation
The analog outputs can generate buffered, hardware-timed waveforms. One channel supports updates up to 800 kS/s, while the available rate is shared when many outputs are updated.
Calculate the required aggregate data rate before configuring a multichannel waveform task.
Digital I/O and Counters
Eight digital lines support logic monitoring and control. The two counters can perform edge counting, frequency-related measurements and pulse generation.
RTSI Synchronization
An RTSI cable can share timing and trigger signals with other compatible PCI DAQ devices. This supports coordinated stimulus and acquisition across multiple boards.
PCI-6723 Applications
- Multichannel analog stimulus generation
- Sensor signal simulation
- Hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Automated test equipment
- Industrial process control
- Electronic load control
- Actuator command generation
- Laboratory automation
- Closed-loop control development
Sensor Simulation
Multiple outputs can simulate sensor voltages presented to an ECU or controller. Test software can reproduce normal, limit and fault-related signal conditions.
Hardware-in-the-Loop Testing
The 32 outputs are useful when a HIL system must generate many independent analog command or feedback signals. Additional isolation or power amplification may be required by the DUT.
Industrial Control
The device can generate low-current analog setpoints for compatible equipment. It should not be connected directly to industrial current loops without appropriate conversion hardware.
PCI-6723 Installation Workflow
Step 1: Confirm the PCI Interface
Verify that the host computer has an available conventional PCI slot.
Step 2: Install NI-DAQmx
Confirm operating-system and driver support for this legacy analog output device.
Step 3: Install the Board
Power down the computer, observe ESD precautions and secure the card.
Step 4: Connect Both Terminal Accessories
Use compatible cables and install the correct PCI-6723 pinout labels.
Step 5: Test Individual Outputs
Generate a low voltage on one channel and verify it with a calibrated meter before connecting the DUT.
Step 6: Validate the Multichannel Task
Confirm update rate, channel ordering, load impedance and safe startup values.
PCI-6723 Troubleshooting
An output voltage is lower than programmed
The connected load may draw too much current. Disconnect the load and verify the channel with a high-impedance meter.
Channels are connected to the wrong terminals
Confirm the connector number and use the correct NI 67xx pinout label.
The requested update rate is unavailable
The 800 kS/s maximum applies to one channel. Multichannel waveform generation shares the update resources.
The waveform contains discontinuities
Check the output buffer, regeneration settings, data-transfer rate and waveform timing.
The device is not detected
Verify PCI compatibility, board seating and NI-DAQmx support.
