32 Simultaneously Sampled Inputs
The PXIe-4305 uses a dedicated 24-bit ADC for each of its 32 differential input channels. All channels can therefore acquire data simultaneously at the maximum sample rate without the timing skew associated with multiplexed analog input systems.
Simultaneous sampling is important when analyzing phase, timing or transient relationships between multiple signals. It is particularly valuable for power, motor, actuator and electromechanical measurements.
±42 V Higher-Voltage Measurements
Each input accepts differential signals within a fixed ±42 V measurement range. This allows the PXIe-4305 to measure higher-voltage sensor and control signals without the external attenuation required by lower-voltage analog input modules.
The maximum working voltage, including the signal and common-mode components, must remain within ±42 V. The PXIe-4305 does not provide channel-to-channel or channel-to-ground isolation.
Per-Channel Digital Filtering
The PXIe-4305 provides optional fourth-order elliptic IIR filters with cutoff frequencies of 2 Hz, 20 Hz, 200 Hz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz. Filter selection can be configured according to the bandwidth and noise requirements of individual channels.
These filters provide 120 dB stopband attenuation and can help reduce broadband noise, power-system interference and unwanted high-frequency components before data is transferred to the host application.
Filter Selection Guide
| Filter Cutoff | Typical Application | Approximate Group Delay at Low Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| 2 Hz | Slow process and steady-state measurements | 113.856 ms |
| 20 Hz | Low-frequency sensor and control measurements | 11.3856 ms |
| 200 Hz | General electromechanical measurements | 1.1385 ms |
| 1 kHz | Faster control and transient signals | 227.4 μs |
| 2 kHz | Higher-bandwidth filtered acquisition | 113.4 μs |
Lower filter cutoff frequencies provide stronger noise reduction but increase signal delay. Filter bandwidth and group delay should both be considered in monitoring and control applications.
Four Independent Timing Engines
The PXIe-4305 can operate as many as four independent timing engines simultaneously. Different channel groups can use separate sample rates and trigger configurations within the same module.
Each buffered or hardware-timed single-point stream supports up to eight channels. This allows faster-changing signals and slower process measurements to be acquired without forcing every channel to use the same timing configuration.
Hardware-Timed Single-Point Operation
Hardware-timed single-point mode is intended for low-latency measurement and control applications. The PXIe-4305 supports single-point acquisition rates from 1 S/s to 51.2 kS/s, depending on system and application performance.
Selectable single-point filters provide cutoff frequencies from 100 Hz to 3 kHz. The hardware-timed single-point ADC group delay is approximately 1.6 μs before the selected digital filter delay is added.
Analog and Digital Triggering
The PXIe-4305 supports analog reference triggers from any of its 32 analog input channels. Available trigger modes include rising edge, falling edge, hysteresis and window-based triggering.
Digital start and reference triggers can be received through PFI0, PXI trigger lines, PXI_STAR and supported PXIe differential star trigger resources. These capabilities simplify synchronization with other PXI instruments.

NI-DAQmx and FlexLogger Support
The PXIe-4305 is supported by the NI-DAQmx driver. Engineers can configure voltage channels, sampling, digital filters, timing engines and triggers through NI Measurement & Automation Explorer or a supported programming environment.
Compatible development environments include LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, C and C#. NI FlexLogger can also configure, display and record measurements without requiring a complete custom application.
TB-4304 Terminal Block
The TB-4304, part number 783870-01, is the recommended front-mount terminal block for the PXIe-4305. It converts the module’s 96-pin DIN connector into 82 screw terminals for field wiring.
The terminal block is rated for measurements up to 42 V and is also compatible with the PXIe-4304. Verify channel polarity, grounding and strain relief before applying signals.
PXI Express Chassis Integration
The PXIe-4305 is a single-slot x1 PXI Express peripheral module compatible with PXI Express and PXI Express Hybrid slots. It provides four DMA channels for transferring analog data to the host controller.
The module can synchronize to its onboard timebase or the PXIe_CLK100 chassis reference. Multiple modules and other PXI instruments can be coordinated for larger synchronized measurement systems.
PXIe-4305 Troubleshooting
The module is not detected in NI MAX
Confirm that the PXIe-4305 is fully seated in a compatible PXI Express or hybrid slot. Verify the chassis, controller and NI-DAQmx installation, then refresh the hardware list in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer.
The measured voltage is inaccurate
Verify signal polarity, differential wiring and common-mode voltage. Allow the module to warm up for at least 15 minutes and confirm that the signal remains within the fixed ±42 V input range.
The waveform appears delayed
Digital filters introduce frequency-dependent group delay. Review the selected filter cutoff and account for its delay when comparing PXIe-4305 data with measurements from other devices.
High-frequency signal content is missing
Check the selected per-channel filter and sample rate. A low cutoff frequency intentionally removes higher-frequency components and may not be suitable for transient or dynamic measurements.
Different channel groups do not run at the expected rates
Confirm the timing-engine and stream assignments. The module has four timing engines, and each buffered or hardware-timed single-point stream supports a maximum of eight channels.
The readings contain excessive noise
Use shielded twisted-pair wiring, verify differential grounding and route signal cables away from motors, inverters and switching power supplies. Select an appropriate digital filter for the required signal bandwidth.
