Verify the ordering number when replacing a PCI-6133. Applications that depend on long finite records or extended pretrigger history may require the 32 MS version.
Eight-Channel Simultaneous Sampling
The PCI-6133 has one sample-and-hold circuit and ADC for every analog input. All eight channels can capture the same point in time, eliminating the interchannel delay produced by multiplexed acquisition hardware.
This provides more reliable phase, timing and propagation-delay measurements across multichannel systems.
2.5 MS/s Per-Channel Acquisition
Every channel can operate at up to 2.5 MS/s under supported NI-DAQmx configurations. The maximum rate is specified per channel rather than being shared among enabled inputs.
At full speed, the board generates a significant amount of data. Deep onboard memory helps capture finite records and temporarily buffers samples while transferring them through the PCI bus.
16 MS and 32 MS Memory Versions
The 16 MS model is suitable for many standard acquisitions, while the 32 MS version supports longer high-speed records and additional pretrigger or post-trigger data.
Onboard memory does not eliminate the need for sufficient host throughput during continuous acquisition. The application must still read data before the device and host buffers become full.
Four Programmable Input Ranges
Each analog input can be configured for one of four bipolar voltage ranges. Selecting a range close to the expected signal amplitude improves the use of the available 14-bit resolution.
Signal offset, noise and transient overshoot must be considered when selecting the range. A range that is too narrow will clip the waveform.
Hardware Triggering
Analog and digital triggering allow the PCI-6133 to capture a waveform in relation to a defined signal event. This is useful for transient recording, pulse analysis and fault-event monitoring.
Pretrigger acquisition can preserve signal history before the trigger event, subject to the configured buffer and onboard-memory capacity.

PCI-6133 Installation Workflow
Step 1: Confirm the Memory Configuration
Check whether the application requires the 16 MS or 32 MS PCI-6133 version.
Step 2: Verify PCI Slot Clearance
Confirm that the host computer provides a conventional PCI slot with enough clearance for a 31.2 cm full-length board.
Step 3: Install NI-DAQmx
Install a driver version that supports the board and operating system. Legacy-device support should be verified before purchasing hardware.
Step 4: Install and Secure the Board
Power off the computer, follow ESD precautions, insert the PCI-6133 and secure its mounting bracket.
Step 5: Connect the Signals
Use a compatible shielded cable and terminal accessory. Verify differential input polarity, analog ground and trigger connections.
Step 6: Test the Acquisition
Run a device self-test and capture a known waveform at a moderate rate before configuring the maximum acquisition speed.
PCI-6133 Troubleshooting
The PCI-6133 is not recognized
Check board seating, PCI slot operation, Device Manager and the installed NI-DAQmx version. Confirm that the computer supports full-length PCI hardware.
The high-speed acquisition stops unexpectedly
Review the host buffer, DMA configuration, PCI bandwidth, storage speed and application read rate. Reduce the sampling rate or record length to identify the system limitation.
Channel phase results are incorrect
Confirm that all channels are included in one hardware-timed task and share the same sample clock and trigger.
The captured record is shorter than expected
Verify the PCI-6133 part number and onboard-memory size. The 16 MS and 32 MS versions provide different finite acquisition depths.
The input waveform contains interference
Check shield termination, source impedance, ground loops and cable routing. Keep digital switching and high-current conductors separated from analog inputs.

PCI-6133 vs PCI-6123
The PCI-6133 prioritizes acquisition speed with 14-bit conversion at 2.5 MS/s/ch. The PCI-6123 provides higher 16-bit resolution but a lower maximum rate of 500 kS/s/ch. Both provide eight simultaneous analog inputs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can all eight PCI-6133 channels sample at 2.5 MS/s?
Yes. The specified maximum rate is per channel because each analog input uses a dedicated ADC.
What is the resolution of the PCI-6133?
The analog input resolution is 14 bits.
Does the PCI-6133 include analog outputs?
No. It provides analog inputs, digital I/O and counter/timer resources but no analog output channels.
Which PCI-6133 part number has 32 MS memory?
Part number 779421-01 is the 32 MS version. Part number 779420-01 provides 16 MS memory.
Is the PCI-6133 isolated?
No. External isolation may be required when measuring signals with incompatible ground potentials.
