Confirm the terminal-block revision and connector arrangement before ordering. The external cable, terminal block, wire gauge, fuses and fixture must all be rated for the intended load.
16 Independent SPST Power Channels
Each PXI-2565 channel functions as an independently programmable normally open contact. Closing a relay completes the external circuit, while opening it disconnects the load.
The SPST architecture is useful for individually controlling power supplies, heaters, lamps, fans, solenoids, contactors and other loads in an automated test system.
AC Line and DC Power Switching
The PXI-2565 supports AC line switching as high as 250 VAC and DC signal switching up to 125 VDC. The maximum permitted current depends on the voltage, load type and applicable switching-power limitation.
The 7 A rating applies to supported resistive AC conditions. DC switching at 30 VDC is limited to 5 A. Do not interpret the highest voltage and highest current ratings as values that can automatically be used together.
Inductive and Capacitive Loads
Motors, solenoids and contactor coils can generate high-voltage transients when their current is interrupted. Capacitive loads and lamps can produce inrush current far above their normal operating current.
Use correctly selected flyback diodes, RC snubbers, transient suppressors, current limiting or external contactors when the load characteristics require additional protection.
Field-Replaceable Relays
The electromechanical relays are installed in sockets and can be replaced during module servicing. This can extend the service life of the module in applications where individual channels receive unusually high switching activity.
Before replacing a relay, disconnect all external sources, observe electrostatic-discharge precautions and use the replacement type specified by NI.
Thermal and Power-Dissipation Considerations
Heat dissipation increases as more channels carry current. When many relays are closed simultaneously, confirm the chassis airflow, ambient temperature and applicable current-derating requirements.
The PXI-2565 occupies two chassis slots. Ensure that the chassis has two suitable adjacent slots and that nearby modules do not obstruct cooling.
PXI-2565 Applications
- AC line-power distribution
- DC power-supply switching
- Heater and fan control
- Lamp and indicator testing
- Motor and solenoid control through protected circuits
- Автоматизированное испытательное оборудование
- Environmental and reliability testing
- Production functional test
- Power-path selection
- Load-bank control
NI-SWITCH Software Integration
NI-SWITCH provides programmatic control of each relay. Test applications can open or close individual channels, create scan lists, configure triggers and monitor switching operations.
NI Switch Executive can assign descriptive names to power circuits and relay paths, making large test systems easier to document and maintain.
PXI-2565 Troubleshooting
The relay closes but the load does not operate
Check the external power source, return path, fuse, terminal-block wiring and load continuity. The relay supplies a contact closure but does not generate power.
A relay contact has excessive resistance
Disconnect power and measure the complete path. Inspect the terminal block, connector and fixture before concluding that the internal relay is worn.
A relay fails after switching an inductive load
Check the load’s stored energy and confirm that suitable suppression was installed. Inductive transients can exceed the relay’s contact-voltage rating.
The module becomes unusually hot
Reduce the number of simultaneously loaded channels and check current on every path. Verify chassis fan operation, ambient temperature and wire-terminal tightness.
The module is not detected
Confirm correct installation in two compatible chassis slots and verify NI-SWITCH installation in NI MAX.
