2-Wire 16×16 Matrix Architecture

The PXIe-2739 contains 16 two-wire rows and 16 two-wire columns. Closing a crosspoint connects the positive and negative conductors of a selected row to the matching positive and negative conductors of a column.

This architecture is well suited to differential signals, four-terminal fixture designs using multiple routes, isolated stimulus connections and applications in which both conductors must be switched together.

256 Independently Controlled Crosspoints

Each row-to-column position represents one independently controlled crosspoint. Software can create one connection, multiple simultaneous routes or complex routing patterns within the electrical and simultaneous-drive limits.

Before closing multiple crosspoints, verify that the routing configuration does not connect conflicting voltage sources or short DUT nodes together.

100 V and 2 A Switching

The module can switch up to 100 V and 2 A per channel, subject to the 60 W or 62.5 VA power limit. These ratings make it suitable for both low-level measurement signals and moderate-power functional-test connections.

The PXIe-2739 is intended for Measurement Category I or CAT O signal circuits and must not be connected directly to mains-distribution circuits.

10 MHz Signal Bandwidth

NI specifies typical bandwidth up to 10 MHz with the stated 50 Ω or 100 Ω termination. Actual bandwidth depends on the selected route, cable, source impedance, load impedance and fixture layout.

For fast pulses or higher-frequency signals, evaluate rise time, crosstalk and open-channel isolation in the complete system.

Relay Health Monitoring

The PXIe-2739 supports onboard relay-count tracking, temperature sensing and functional and resistive relay self-tests. These features can be accessed through the NI Switch Health Center.

Maintenance teams can use this information to identify heavily used routes, predict service requirements and reduce unexpected production-test downtime.

Field-Replaceable Relays

The PXIe-2739 relays are field replaceable using the procedures defined in NI documentation. Relay replacement should be performed by qualified personnel using approved components and ESD-safe handling.

After replacement, verify relay function and resistance before returning the module to production service.

Typical PXIe-2739 Applications

  • Automated functional testing
  • Continuity and resistance measurement
  • Multi-instrument signal routing
  • Data acquisition multiplexing
  • Полупроводниковые системы тестирования
  • Electronic control-unit validation
  • Испытания в аэрокосмической и оборонной промышленности
  • Production end-of-line testing
  • Laboratory switching systems
  • High-density test-fixture routing

DIN160 Connector and Cabling

The front panel uses a 160-position DIN 41612 connector. Select a compatible DIN cable, terminal block or custom fixture assembly according to signal count, voltage, current and required shielding.

For low-level measurements, keep high-current routes separated from sensitive signal wiring and use appropriate twisted-pair or shielded construction.

NI-SWITCH Software Support

NI-SWITCH provides functions for opening and closing crosspoints, scanning routes, reading relay counts and performing supported diagnostic operations.

NI Switch Executive can define virtual devices and named routes, making large matrices easier to manage in LabVIEW, TestStand and other automated test applications.

PXIe-2739 Troubleshooting

The PXIe-2739 is not detected

Confirm that the module is fully seated in a compatible PXI Express slot. Check chassis power, controller communication and NI-SWITCH installation.

A row-to-column route remains open

Verify the physical row and column names, software route and DIN cable wiring. Use supported relay self-tests to check the associated crosspoint.

Path resistance is too high

Include both relay paths, cable conductors and fixture contacts in the measurement. Inspect connectors and use the resistive self-test or an external four-wire measurement to isolate the fault.

The module cannot close more relays

The simultaneous relay-drive limit is 90. Review the active connection map and release unused crosspoints.

Measurements contain unexpected crosstalk

Reduce cable length, improve shielding, separate high-level and low-level signals and confirm that the application frequency is appropriate for the matrix.
