Dual-Channel 3.2 GS/s Operation

In dual-channel mode, both inputs are sampled simultaneously at 3.2 GS/s. This configuration is useful when the phase and timing relationship between two wideband signals must be preserved.

Single-Channel 6.4 GS/s Interleaving

Interleaved mode combines converter resources to sample one input at 6.4 GS/s. This doubles the time-domain sample density but provides only one active analog acquisition channel.

Applications should account for interleaving-related spectral behavior when evaluating extremely low-level signals.

6 GHz AC-Coupled Bandwidth

The AC-coupled front end supports signals from approximately 1 MHz through more than 6 GHz. It is intended for RF and high-frequency signals rather than DC or slowly changing voltage measurements.

Real-Time FPGA Processing

The onboard FPGA can implement custom triggers, filters, digital downconversion, fast Fourier transforms, pulse detection and real-time data reduction.

Although the standard product does not include a fixed onboard digital downconverter, engineers can implement application-specific frequency translation and decimation in LabVIEW FPGA.

High-Speed Data Management

Raw acquisition at several gigasamples per second produces very large data volumes. FPGA processing and onboard memory allow the system to capture selected events or transfer reduced data instead of continuously streaming every raw sample.

Cooling and Computer Requirements

The PCIe-5775 is a double-slot card with an integrated fan and a maximum power requirement of 75 W. The computer must provide adequate slot spacing, PCI Express lanes, power and unrestricted airflow.

PCIe-5775 Applications

  • Wideband radar prototyping
  • LIDAR signal acquisition
  • RF communications research
  • Electronic-warfare development
  • Microwave signal monitoring
  • High-speed spectral analysis
  • Pulse detection and characterization
  • Particle-physics instrumentation
  • Custom real-time receivers
  • Advanced semiconductor testing

Radar and LIDAR

The high sample rate and FPGA processing make the PCIe-5775 suitable for acquiring short pulses, wideband echoes and rapidly changing signals.

Communications Research

The 6 GHz front end can directly digitize many RF and intermediate-frequency signals. Custom FPGA logic can channelize or demodulate the acquired spectrum.

PCIe-5775 Installation Workflow

Step 1: Verify Computer Resources

Confirm the availability of a PCI Express Gen 3 x8 or x16 slot, two-slot clearance, sufficient power and adequate airflow.

Step 2: Install FlexRIO Software

Install the FlexRIO driver and the required LabVIEW FPGA development components.

Step 3: Install the Device

Power down the computer and secure the PCIe-5775 without obstructing its fan inlet or exhaust path.

Step 4: Connect the RF Input

Use 50 Ω microwave cables and appropriate attenuators. Confirm signal amplitude before connecting the input.

Step 5: Configure Acquisition Mode

Select dual-channel 3.2 GS/s operation or single-channel 6.4 GS/s interleaving.

Step 6: Load the FPGA Design

Use the finite-acquisition personality or compile the required real-time processing logic.

Step 7: Verify Performance

Apply a known RF tone and check amplitude, frequency, spectral response, trigger timing and data-transfer operation.

PCIe-5775 Troubleshooting

The PCIe-5775 is not detected

Check PCI Express lane width, device seating, BIOS configuration and FlexRIO driver installation.

The device overheats or reverts to a default personality

Check fan operation, computer airflow, inlet temperature and FPGA resource or clock utilization.

The acquired signal is clipped

Reduce the input amplitude and use a microwave attenuator. The nominal input range is 1.25 Vpp.

A low-frequency signal is missing

The analog inputs are AC coupled and are not designed to acquire DC or signals below the lower passband.

Continuous streaming cannot maintain the sample rate

Implement FPGA triggering, decimation, filtering or event-based capture to reduce the transferred data volume.

Only one channel works at 6.4 GS/s

This is expected. The 6.4 GS/s rate uses single-channel interleaved mode; dual-channel operation is 3.2 GS/s per channel.

PCIe-5775 Comparison

PCIe-5763416 bits500 MS/s per channel
PCIe-5764416 bits1 GS/s class
PCIe-5774212 bits6.4 GS/s
PCIe-5775212 bits6.4 GS/s

Choose the PCIe-5775 for 6 GHz RF bandwidth and gigasample acquisition. Choose the PCIe-5763 when four channels and higher 16-bit resolution are more important than microwave bandwidth.
